Train travel is undoubtedly the best way to get around Sri Lanka. Not only is it the most cost-effective, but it gives you an opportunity to travel slowly through the vastly beautiful and varied landscape. From the beachside tracks that skirt the coastline to the rickety rails which climb high into the misty mountains, Sri Lankan train travel has it all. All this coupled with the friendly, interesting people you meet along the way, and you’re left with a journey you won’t forget in a hurry. The series of images below were taken during a month long trip to Sri Lanka late last year.

I’ve seen this on National Geographic and they flag it as one of the most dangerous railways. But i think its a good experience riding this train, the view from the train is really cool. I would definitely will ride it.
Some of the tracks skirt the hillside and it does, at times, feel a little precarious. You should 100% take a trip on the trains of Sri Lanka. It’s the best way to see the beautiful country!
