Sapa is a bustling market town high in the mountains of North West Vietnam towards the Chinese border. The area is home to a number of ethnic minority groups such as Hmong, Dao, Pho Lu and Tay, who farm the terraced rice fields and thrive off the growing tourist trade in the region.
The town itself lies at 1500m above sea level but the surrounding Hoàng Liên Son mountain range reaches much higher. Fansipan, the tallest peak in Vietnam at 3,143m is part of this range which is the far eastern extremity of the Himalaya.
Below is a series of photographs taken last year whilst on a multi-day trek to a local village, all shot on 35mm film.

Absolutely beautiful photos. Adam (my better half) is travelling to Vietnam for the first time in a couple of months time and I’ve heard that it’s one of the most interesting places out there.
Thanks, Anna! It’s such an amazing place!
Stunning photos, really sets a the scene. Lovely.
Thanks!
These are stunning images. Love to see film still being used. It’s on my list of things to organise this year! I visited Vietnam in 1997 and this reassures me that it is still the same all these years later. I want to take my kids there one day as it was a very special adventure.
