Gear Review: Jack Wolfskin Pack & Go Windbreaker

Whether you’re heading out on your morning jog, climbing hills on a mountain bike, or sitting having a picnic along the coast with friends, the JWP windbreaker provides you with that perfect lightweight protection when you need it most.

We’ve been blessed with some soaring temperatures during this summer of lockdown, yet the unpredictable UK summer forecasts can bring random whirls of winds, chilly temps, and summer showers. With this in mind, it’s hard to decide what gear to equip yourself with when heading out for the day. But for me, the JWP is a must-have. Being part of the Pack & Go range, this lightweight jacket folds down easily into the pocket pouch, making it ideal to throw into your bag, stuff in the glove box or pack into your bike pannier.

The Tech

– Weight: 125 g (size S) – FLEX SHIELD AIRLITE: Super lightweight and breathable, provides a two-way stretch, wind and water-resistant softshell fabric with minimum level of insulation

– 2 hand pockets (one of which doubles as a stow pouch for the jacket)

Overall verdict

I’m stoked to have this jacket as part of my adventure wardrobe. It’s going to be an essential piece for me to take on future bike packing adventures and climbing trips. Weighing in at only 125g you hardly notice you are even wearing it compared to a heavy gore-tex.

The lightweight material allows you complete freedom of movement during any activity. It’s unrestrictive yet gives a slim fit. For me, the colour had to be Night Blue, although the Pacific green was a good contender. And if you’re stomping through forest trails or sending your bike through wet terrain, the softshell fabric can be easily wiped down from any muddy splashes.

The two hand pockets are ideal for stashing away your phone, headphones, or keys in day to day life or stuffing a few energy bars when out for a jog or bike ride. It’s quick and easy to stow away into one of the pockets when you don’t need to wear it.

The only concern for me would be ripping the material as it’s so thin and light, however, the FLEX SHIELD AIRLIGHT has proved strong and durable the last couple of months with no tears or rips so far.

Overall this is a must-have in my Spring-Summer gear wardrobe. Ideal to take with you on adventures or just have on you when doing your daily errands. The pack and go element coupled with the lightweight features makes this a super simple yet effective bit of kit when you need it.
