A review of the merino wool buff

Gear Review: Merino Wool BUFF®

The guys at Kitshack very kindly sent me a Merino Wool Buff to test out over the winter months. I’ve used Buffs for years when skiing and cycling, so the opportunity to try out the merino version was fantastic – I’m a huge advocate for merino wool everything!

Since the buff arrived I’ve been using it none stop. Useful to throw on when out for a walk with the dog, in the mountains when the wind is howling, out on the bike, and especially when skiing.

Having just returned from a week of skiing in the Portes du Soleil, I can honestly say the Buff was amazing. I used it all day, every day and it was perfect. Being wool, the Buff is remarkably warm for such a thin item and stays warm when wet, unlike cotton which goes cold and gives that awful cold sweat feeling.

The breathable properties of merino wool mean that, unlike other fleecy neck warmers, the Buff does’t get too moist around the mouth and then freeze when temperatures plummet either.

The versatility of Buffs make them a must have piece of kit when in the mountains. Perfect when it’s cold to cover up, and even when it’s warm to wear as a headband.

I’ll definitely be using my Buff through the spring and in to the summer. Merino wool is not only excellent when it’s cold, but also performs excellently when hot.

Thanks to the guys at KitShack for their support.

  1. I’m always freezing whenever I go skiing, regardless how of many layers I put on. Thanks for the tip and review. I will definitely check this out for next time. Also, love the photos 🙂
